Regional Centrum for Contemporary Art

With the fifth anniversary approaching, the Luxfer Gallery in Česká Skalice is looking back. The Luxfer Gallery started its existence in April 2010, following the Náchod – based Slávie Gallery with similar aim: to bring valuable art to the region and to dissipate certain distrust against it. Unlike Slávie, where established, mostly Prague-based artists exhibited, the platform of the Luxfer Gallery enabled experimental or progressive project to occur, as well as first solo shows of young students of art.
25 exhibitions have been here since the gallery started: prominent personalities of the Czech artistic scene (e.g. Jiří David, Jiří Kovanda, Tomáš Svoboda, Jiří Thýn, Rafani, Daniela Baráčková) and the youngest generation as well (Inna Levinson, Radim Langer, Vladimír Pešek etc.). In the thematic project sections regional authors (Pavel Doskočil, Vladimír Pešek, Ondřej Petrlík) or foreign artists (Conrad Armstrong – USA, Mariola Przyjemska – PL, Julia Gryboś with Barbora Zentková – PL, SK) have been presented.
Besides the exhibitions, Luxfer Gallery participated at many other programmes. First of all it ́s BioLuxfer, summer author ́s and experimental films projections. Videoart of Mark Ther, Radim Labuda, Federico Díaz or David Možný was presented.
Some commented tours and public lectures have been held as well (in Vila Čerych, at Contemporary Art Festival Broumart etc.).
The space of the gallery has been used as a studio for the students of the Brno FaVU painting studio for their plain-air activities in local public space interventions.
Luxfer Gallery took the patronage (with the cooperation of Vila Čerych) over two artistic residencies (Conrad Armstrong and Ondřej Petrlík). This project will be further developer and artistic results will be presented at a special event. Succesfull exhibition Krize beze smyslu (Meaningless Crisis) was organized by the gallery in AZ Tower in Brno (August 2013). According to the need of wider activities organisation, a Regional Centre for Contemporary Art has been newly established. Its aim would be further development of exhibitional and special projects of the gallery.
